Maya Traditions – www.mayatraditions.com Maya Traditions is a Fair Trade wholesale business and Maya women’s social service organization with offices in San Francisco and Panajachel in Guatemala. They produce artesania with 5 women's groups around Lake Atitlan and working with Mayan Hands has created a learning center for 14 groups with over 280 women and their families. Maya Traditions is currently providing emergency relief efforts to people in the Lake Atitlan area and is creating a “adopt a family” program for long-term support. Region: Lake Atitlan Hospitalito Atitlan - www.puebloapueblo.org/index.html This group has been working with incredible community effort to rebuild a hospital in Santiago Atitlan. They had just gotten it up and running in April, but it was badly damaged by the mudslide. They are now dealing with the injured and will have to figure out options for restoring or rebuilding the hospital in the future. It is easy to donate online and they have interesting pictures on their website.Region: Santiago Atitlan Project Gift - www.projectgift2003.org The mission of Project Gift is to organize and coordinate the delivery of free medical services to the indigenous Guatemalans living in the Lake Atitlan region. Services are primarily directed to pregnant mothers and their children.. Since Hurricane Stan they are providing food, water, bedding, clothes, and shelter for those most in need. They will be in Guatemala in December , bringing supplies and giving medical assistance to people affected by the hurricane and coordinating with other relief groups who need their help. Your donation now, can help toward this effort and that their work may continue. Lake Atitlan Environmental Protection Society/ProLago - http://prolagoatitlan.org/pub/bin/perform.fcgi Lake Atitlan is an incredible gem. Most of the environmental protection infrastructure including drinking water, sewage treatment plants, and recycling facilities were destroyed by the hurricane. ProLago is a non-profit grassroots organization working toward the preservation of the lake and they have good community ties. If you donate to the international lakes organization their web site is linked to - be sure to say for Lake Attitlan. Region: Lake Atitlan Mayan Hands - www.sharingthedream.org/default.htm Mayan Hands works with many co-operative groups both in the Lake Atitlan area and throughout Guatemala. Mayan Hands is a project that promotes fair trade with cooperatives and small businesses. They are committed to providing fair wages and employment opportunities to low-income artisans. They are working with groups in the Santiago Atitlan area and are organizing an effort to get help down to their partner organizations. Region: Lake Atitlan Tax Deductible donations can be made through their representative 501(c3) organization in the U.S.: Friends of Sharing the Dream 125 E Main Street Vermillion,SD 57069 Region: Lake Atitlan area Amigos de Santa Cruz - www.amigosdesantacruz.org Amigos de Santa Cruz has set up a Flood Relief Fund to help raise money for victims of the floods on their side of the lake, specifically, Jaibolito and Tzununa, as well as repair the water system that feeds all of Santa Cruz as that system was destroyed during the storms. Our priority has been immediate repair of the water system so that the people of Santa Cruz can have potable water as soon as possible. Amigos is a 501(c)3 organization and all donations are tax deductible. The assessed damages to our side of the lake were small in comparison to the devastations in Santiago and Panajachel. We are grateful and relieved that no lives were lost in our communities.. A total of 11 homes were destroyed and those families will need our help in rebuilding their lives. In the meantime, funds have been made available immediately to get the water system functional. Aside from the immediate relief fund, Amigos supports the Santa Cruz community via education, health and environmental projects. Region: Lake Titan Friendship Bridge - www This group provides micro-credit loans in the Santiago Titan area. Friendship Bridge and the people of Guatemala need your help now more than ever. Hurricane Stan and a torrential rainy season have wreaked havoc on communities all over Guatemala. Mud slides and massive flooding are currently affecting our borrowers and the families of our borrowers, as homes and lives are being swept away. We need your help.
